Our Commitment to Sustainability
Environmental responsibility is at the core of our business. Every pallet recycled is a step toward a greener future.
Pallets, Not Landfills
Every year, approximately 700 million wooden pallets are produced in the United States alone. Without proper recycling programs, millions of these pallets would end up in landfills, wasting valuable resources and taking up space.
At Austin Pallets, we believe in a circular economy approach. Through repair, reuse, and recycling, we give pallets multiple lives, reducing the demand for new lumber and minimizing waste.
Our comprehensive recycling program ensures that even pallets beyond repair find new purpose as mulch, animal bedding, particleboard, or biomass fuel. Nothing goes to waste.

The Pallet Lifecycle
How we maximize the value and minimize waste in every pallet
Collection
We collect used pallets from businesses throughout Central Texas. Our trucks pick up pallets that are no longer needed, keeping them out of the waste stream.
- Free pickup for large quantities
- Scheduled regular pickups available
- All grades and conditions accepted
Sorting & Inspection
Each pallet is carefully inspected and sorted by condition. We determine whether pallets can be sold as-is, need repair, or should be recycled.
- Grade A: Like-new condition
- Grade B: Minor repairs needed
- Grade C: Usable with repairs
- Recycle: Beyond economic repair
Repair & Refurbishment
Pallets that can be economically repaired are refurbished to meet quality standards. This extends their useful life by 3-5 cycles.
- Board replacement
- Nail repairs
- Structural fixes
- Quality inspection
Resale & Reuse
Quality pallets are sold back to businesses, completing the reuse cycle. Used pallets cost less than new and perform just as well.
- Up to 70% cost savings vs. new
- Same performance as new
- Multiple grades available
Recycling
Pallets that cannot be repaired are broken down and recycled. Every component finds a new purpose - nothing goes to waste.
- Wood chips for mulch
- Animal bedding material
- Biomass fuel
- Particleboard manufacturing
Our Sustainability Practices
How we minimize our environmental footprint every day
Repair First Philosophy
We prioritize repair over replacement whenever possible. A repaired pallet can last another 3-5 trips, reducing the need for new lumber.
Zero-Waste Recycling
Every piece of wood that cannot be repaired is recycled. We produce mulch, animal bedding, and biomass fuel from broken pallets.
Local Operations
By working with local businesses and suppliers, we minimize transportation distances and associated carbon emissions.
Efficient Fleet Management
Route optimization and regular vehicle maintenance keep our delivery fleet running efficiently, reducing fuel consumption.
Sustainable Sourcing
When we need new lumber, we source from sustainably managed forests with responsible harvesting practices.
Energy Efficiency
Our facility uses energy-efficient lighting, equipment, and processes to minimize our energy consumption.
Water Conservation
Our operations use minimal water, and any runoff is properly managed to prevent contamination.
Community Education
We help businesses understand the environmental impact of pallet choices and implement sustainable practices.
Recycling Certificates
We provide documentation of recycled materials for businesses that need to demonstrate environmental compliance.
From Broken Pallets to Valuable Products
Pallets that cannot be repaired are transformed into useful products
Landscape Mulch
Ground into natural mulch for gardens and landscaping. Available in natural and dyed varieties.
Animal Bedding
Clean, processed wood shavings perfect for horse stalls, chicken coops, and other animal bedding.
Biomass Fuel
Processed wood chips used as renewable fuel for industrial boilers and power generation.
Particleboard
Wood fibers are reclaimed for use in engineered wood products like particleboard.
Why Pallet Recycling Matters
The environmental impact of proper pallet management
Saves Natural Resources
Every pallet that gets repaired or recycled means less demand for new lumber. One mature tree can produce only 7 pallets, so recycling makes a real difference.
Reduces Carbon Footprint
Manufacturing new pallets requires energy and produces CO2. By extending pallet life, we significantly reduce the carbon footprint of logistics operations.
Diverts Landfill Waste
Pallets in landfills take years to decompose and take up valuable space. Our recycling program keeps pallets out of landfills entirely.
